Every Interaction Is an Offer

An offer is an exchange of value.

When two people interact, they are both exchanging time for value. As such, every interaction—and the sub-interactions within it—are made up of offers.

For example, imagine you're having a conversation with another person. The interaction begins, and the exchange of offers unfolds. The value of that interaction as a whole is made up of the sum of all the sub-interactions.

Practically speaking, the total value of a conversation consists of:

  • The time invested

  • Who you’re speaking with

  • The quality of the questions, answers, and mutual understanding

Knowing this, begin every interaction with the goal of offering as much value as possible by:

  1. Who you are

  2. The quality of your questions, answers, and level of understanding

Improve yourself by:

  1. Becoming a valuable person

  2. Providing insights, support, or information that are valuable to them
